E-mail Address Autocompletion

This page discusses how to add the CS Directory and the UNM Directory to Thunderbird and Mozilla Mail.

NOTE: You MUST be behind the firewall to access the CS directory. Attempting to access it outside the firewall may cause Mozilla Mail or Thunderbird to temporarily freeze when you are typing in email addresses.

Mozilla Thunderbird

1. Go to Edit, then Preferences.
2. Click on Composition.
3. Look for Address Autocompletion.
4. Check Directory Server.
5. Click Edit Directories.
6. Click Add. You will get a window like this

Thunderbird Add LDAP directory

7. Put in following values for the UNM CS directory

If you want the main UNM directory, add another entry using these values

8. Click OK and again OK
9. If you are at the CS department you can add both CS and UNM directory in step 6. If you are not at the CS department you will not be able to access our LDAP directory because of our firewall.

Mozilla Mail

NOTE: Adding the CS Directory to Mozilla if you are outside the firewall may result in Mozilla repeatedly freezing for short periods of time when using the To: field on its Compose window. Do not add the CS server if you are outside the firewall.

1. Click on Edit, Preferences.
2. Expand "Mail & Newgroups", and click on the "Addressing" option.
3. On the Addressing Tab, click Directory Server.
4. The "Edit Directories" button will no longer be greyed out if it was greyed out before. Click it.

The Addressing window in Mozilla (Windows version shown).

5. A window titled "LDAP Server Directories" will appear. Click on Add.

Click OK three times to close all the dialog boxes. The next time you use the Compose window, addresses should start appearing in the drop-down menu below where you type.
