Intrinsic dynamics of a system at the “edge of chaos” can be used to process information using a readout layer that maps the system’s dynamics onto a target output. This approach is called reservoir computing (RC) and is a suitable approach to be used with unconventional computing paradigms due to its relaxed assumptions about the underlying dynamical system. In their new Physical Review E article, Alireza and his collaborators, David Snyder and Christof Teuscher from Portland State University, studied how the optimal performance in reservoir computing arises as a trade-off between separability and fading memory of inputs. Alireza worked with Prof. Darko Stefanovic to apply this method to molecular computing.
