Over the past several years, the UNM Computer Science Department has expanded opportunities for students, including a peer tutoring program, more aggressive nomination of students for awards and fellowships, and departmental scholarships. Our program is currently the only accredited computer science program in New Mexico. Our faculty conduct research on a wide range of topics, and they are committed to producing graduates who can be effective on the job.
Graduates with a degree in computer science have a variety of career choices, from programming and technical support to graphic design and computer animation. With the Bureau of Labor Statistics projecting 41% of all job creation in the U.S. to be in the Information Technology sector over the next ten years, the department is optimistic about the future of the field and the opportunities that it provides.
