A Deformable Semantic Network as a Tool for Context-Based Ambiguity Resolution
M. Rogati, J. Lewis, and G. Luger

Presented at the 2nd Annual PURSUE Student Conference at UNM, (2000).

Ambiguity resolution is one of the primary challenges in natural language processing. We present a modified semantic network as a tool for performing ambiguity resolution based on context. The mechanisms used in this architecture resemble neurological processes responsible for the phenomenon of priming in humans. Three sentences, representing unique grammatical ambiguities, are placed in different contexts to analyze the behavior of the network. The results indicate that this approach has the potential for further application in problems where adaptation to context, or the surrounding environment, is critical.
