| CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
2nd CS UNM Student Conference (CSUSC 2006)
March 3, 2006
Albuquerque, NM
|
The CSGSA is pleased to announce the 2nd annual
CS UNM Student Conference (CSUSC). The conference will be held
on March 3rd, 2006 at UNM (location to be announced in a subsequent
mailing). There will be the following tracks
1) Research Talks
2) Graduate Poster Session
3) Undergraduate Poster Session.
A prize and a commemorative plaque will be awarded to the best
entry in each category ($50 for the Best Talk, and $50 for each
kind of Best Poster). We strongly encourage everyone in the department
who is doing research (undergraduates, graduates, and post-docs;
sorry faculty!) to submit to one of the relevant categories.
For the poster sessions, preliminary results are welcome. Talk
submissions should be for more well-developed research projects,
and can be for work accepted for publication elsewhere. The main
goal of this conference is to create an environment in which the
CS UNM community can learn about the research being done in our
department, and potentially foster intra-departmental collaborations.

--- DEADLINES ---
Submissions which deviate from guidelines listed below, including
deadlines, unfortunately risk rejection without consideration
of their merits. Authors are required to submit their abstracts
electronically in PDF format - information about how to do this
is given below.
--- Contributed Talk abstract deadline:
CLOSED
We encourage students with well developed research to submit abstracts
for talks. You must submit an extended abstract, not exceeding
two pages in length (excluding references), for your contributed
talk. Talk abstracts will be reviewed by the Program Committee,
and a selection of high quality talks accepted. Although acceptance
will be based on the content of the extended abstract, you may
submit additional material (e.g., a paper or tech-report) to appear
in the Proceedings alongside the abstract. Final talks should
be at most 20 minutes long; we will allow for 5 minutes of question
and answer following each talk.
--- Poster abstract deadline:
CLOSED
We encourage all students with new and preliminary research to
submit poster abstracts. Poster abstracts should not exceed one
page in length (excluding references). All topically relevant
poster abstracts will be accepted; we simply need to get a list
of people who will be presenting. Final posters should be a standard
36"x48" and can be printed by CS Support.
--- Submission Guidelines: All submissions
must be in pdf format, must obey this LaTex
template, and must be submitted electronically to the Conference
Chair by the indicated deadline with the following pieces of information:
your full name, your student status (graduate, undergraduate),
and whether you are submitting a poster or talk. To submit, send
your file and information to the username csusc06
on the departmental servers.
1. The list of authors should include any of your collaborators,
although if you are submitting an extended abstract, please place
a * beside the name of the presenter.
2. For extended abstracts, you may omit the traditional 'abstract'
block in the latex file if you wish.
3. Figures are absolutely allowed in the abstract, but because
of the relatively short length of submissions, please limit their
number.
4. Finally, submissions to the conference are non-exclusive, so
you are certainly free to submit an abstract of work that is being
reviewed or has been published elsewhere.
--- Notification: Authors will be sent notification
of acceptance or rejection by email on or before February 10,
2006.
--- Deadline for Accepted Abstracts: A camera-ready
version of each accepted abstract (and additional material if
submitted) is required by February 24, 2006.
