CS 361, Fall 2017, Prof. Tom Hayes

Important: No classes first week!

(since I am out of the country for a conference.) This includes the Friday lab section. The first class will be held Tuesday, August 29, at the scheduled time. Sorry for any inconvenience! Please email me if you have any questions or concerns.

Course Handout

Here is the CS 361 course handout.

Please read it carefully, as it contains important information you will want to know later.

Reading Assignment 1

Please read Chapter 1 of Algorithm Design, 1st edition, by J. Kleinberg and E. Tardos. Here it is on Amazon.

I have also excerpted the beginning of this book from a pirated copy I found on the web. Here it is. As it is copyrighted material, I ask you to only make fair use of it, until you can obtain the published book.

Office Hours

My "drop in" office hours are Wednesdays, 1:00-2:50 (starting August 30). My office is Travelstead B31, located in the basement of Travelstead Hall.

I am also available by appointment. The best way to make an appointment is to send me an email. Please send your appointment requests 2-3 days in advance as my schedule can be very busy.

If you want to attend office hours virtually, using Skype or Google Hangouts, let me know in advance, and I will see if we can get that set up.

UNM Learn

The UNM Learn page for the course should be up and working properly now. Please go there for more up-to-date information about the course.

First homework

The first written assignment is available now from the UNM Learn page for the course. It is due on Tues, Sept 19, before class, and must be submitted online through UNM Learn.
