James Horey

I'm a PhD student in Computer Science at the University of New Mexico in the Scalable Systems Lab. My academic interests include operating systems, communications libraries, and programming interfaces. Specifically, my research interests are in sensor network programming environments and the underlying systems that are needed to support such environments.

My disseration work attempts to address the difficulty of programming and managing a large number of sensor network components. This difficulty stems from both a lack of proper programming and visualization tools and the lack of support from underlying operating systems and libraries. As such, my work focuses on constructing the tools necessary to create complex sensor network applications at multiple levels of the software stack. Besides the challenges associated with constructing such tools, my research also attempts to address the question of whether applications constructed using these tools can be efficient with respect to energy and overall memory usage.
