Addison Wesley, 1998; ISBN # 0-201-35088-2.
Note: since the UNM Bookstore is out, you may want to order a copy
from an on-line bookstore; VarsityBooks (www.varsitybooks.com) lists
it for 33.96, BigWords (bigwords.com) for 34.56 (and 29.96 used),
AOneBooks (www.a1books.com) for 35.75, KingBooks (www.kingbooks.com)
for 37.95, and the majors (amazon.com, fatbrain.com, borders.com,
and barnesandnoble.com) all list it for 39.95. Any of those should
get you the text within 2-3 days.
Grading:
Graded homework assignments (5-7 in all), counting for about one quarter
of the grade, three examinations (at least one will be take-home),
counting for about half of the grade, and a project, counting for about
one quarter of the grade. Those figures are tentative
and approximate at best: grading is a subjective activity.
In general, a student's performance
towards the end of the semester is considered more important, especially
if it shows improvement over earlier work.
Policies:
Assignment deadlines are strict: late homework will automatically receive
a grade of zero, unless sufficient cause can be shown.
No make-up for homework or take-home tests. Make-up for in-class test
requires either 1 week of advance notice (in case of planned absence),
or a medical statement (in case of unforeseen problem).
Usual university policies for withdrawals, incompletes, academic honesty,
etc.; note that collaboration (but not plagiarism!) on homework is not
forbidden, as long as the final product is individually crafted.
