CS 500: Administrivia

  • Time: MW 9:00-10:15
  • Place: ME 214
  • Instructor: Bernard M.E. Moret, moret@cs.unm.edu
  • Office and Hours: EECE 236C (7-5699); MW 10:30-12, plus MTW afternoons (1:30-5) whenever my door is open.
  • Text: Moret, B.M.E., The Theory of Computation, Addison-Wesley.
  • Grading: Graded homework assignments (about 6 in all), counting for 30% of the grade, and 3 examinations, counting for 70% of the grade; all homework and examinations will be week-long take-home; homework (but not tests!) can be done in teams. Those figures are tentative and approximate at best: grading is a subjective activity. In general, a student's performance towards the end of the semester is considered more important, especially if it shows improvement over earlier work.
  • Policies: Assignment deadlines are strict: late homework will automatically receive a grade of zero, unless sufficient cause can be shown. No make-up for either homework or tests. Usual university policies for withdrawals, incompletes, academic honesty, etc.
  • Known Absences: Probably absent Feb. 3-4-5 (IBM PI meeting); definitely absent March 12-13-14-15 (DIMACS workshop); other short business trips likely.
