The Man Mandir Palace
The Man Mandir Palace forms the core of the Gwalior fort. It is one of the many forts that dot the landscape of what are today the states of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, but which in times past consisted of many small princely states. Founded in the eighth century, the fort holds a commanding position atop a 300 foot bluff. Despite the fort’s seemingly impregnable position, it changed hands numerous times, variously coming under control of the Delhi Sultans, the Mughal Empire, and the British.

The Man Mandir Palace, built by Raja Man Singh between 1486 and 1516, is considered a gem of secular Rajput architecture.
