Log Cabin
I had to look hard to see the Ghost Ranch log cabin in the foreground.
You can see the Chama river backed up by Abiquiu dam -
I always wanted to pronounce that: ah-bee-kyew'-ee-you
The Chama above here is wonderful rafting. No roads - very wild.
About 13 dirt road miles up the Chama from the Ghost Ranch Nature
Museum, you come, at the end of the road, to
Christ in the Desert
Monastery. It has been some 15 years since I have been there.
Well, was I ever surprised last spring, as I was cruising the
internet, to find a home page! And, they now gain much of their
income sitting there in the desert - beautiful river at their front
door - towering cliffs behind them -
doing data entry - and, their numbers have recently
burgeoned from 5 or 6 to 15 or 20 today.
In the upper right you can see good old Pedernales, sometimes called
O'Keefe's mountain - she lived in this area as well as downriver in
the town of Abiquiu. Why the granularity of Pedernales? I
increased the gif file size to 42K. Is a puzzlement.
