Well, as you have probably guessed by now, my name is Aaron Romero. I'm a fourth year Computer Science major with a minor in Statistics. I come from El Paso, Texas, where I lived up until i transferred to UNM in January, 2000. I attended the University of Texas at El Paso, where I also student taught for two and a half semesters. My family and friends still live there.

These are my best friends.

This is Thomas Azar, a music theory and composition/Piano Performance student at UTEP. I've known Tom since the 8th grade, and we've been good friends ever since. This is a poster from his last recital, which I designed and typeset. (requires acrobat reader). I took the pictures for two previous posters, as well as the photograph here to the left. I like black and white photography, and used a Canon AE1 SLR with a 28 to 80 mm zoom lens, and Kodak TMAX 400 film for this shoot.

This is my very best friend, Iliana Limón, former Editor in Chief of the UNM Daily Lobo. I've known her since the 8th grade, when we both went to school in El Paso. We were best friends in high school, and have been close ever since. This picture of her was taken when she was the news editor. She is an excellent writer, and her hard work has paid off nicely. Iliana held an internship with the Austin-American Statesman, down in Austin, Texas (yay!) Iliana now has a full time position as a general assignment/ State Legislature/ Police reporter with the Albuquerque Tribune.

Jaime Browne is another one of my really good friends. He listens to be complain about everything, and manages not to smack me for it. He's also really funny, and a generally great guy to hang around with, except when he starts talking smack about the Yankees. Jaime is a big Boston fan, which is cool for basketball, but not baseball. Jaime is a former CS151 TA/RI, and, much like myself, can usually be found sitting in the ESC Pod north, cursing at the computers because we can't seem to find the "make cool" button. Be sure to check out his game, Ages of War, on his homepage.

(12/13/01) Jaime is a great guy. In addition to getting me Skies of Arcadia (Dreamcast) for my birthday, he also got me Azurik (X-Box) for Christmas. my friends are great!

My other best friend is a guy named Glenn Huval. Unfortunately, Glenn doesn't have a picture for me to put on my web page, so i'll just have to talk about him instead. I've known Glenn for about a year now, and he's one of the most interesting people i've ever met. Glenn is an extremely talented programmer and a gited animator. Anything i can do with Maya, Glenn can do about 100 times better. Glenn got me the Final Fantasy DVD for my birthday, and I think that's just damned cool.

When I actually find free time, I like to read books, listen to music, and see movies. I write a little bit of fiction, too. My favorite book of all time is Victor Hugo's masterpiece, Les Misérables. I am currently reading One Hundred Years of Solitude, and I strongly recommend that everybody take a peek at David Sedaris' Me Talk Pretty One Day. As far as movies are concerned, my favorites are American Beauty, Schindler's List, and Donnie Darko.

I also like some anime, mainly Cowboy Bebop, Inu-Yasha, Gundam Wing, Macross (Robotech in the US) and of course, Tenchi Muyo. My favorite anime character is Ryoko from Tenchi Muyo, followed by Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop. I currently have sessions one through three of the six Cowboy Bebop sessions. I have volume 1 of Blue Submarine No. 6, and I have Tenchi Muyo! In Love (the movie) and finally, I have tenchi Universe, earth I and Space III. The next thing I want to buy is the Tenchi Muyo DVD box set. Cartoons make me happy! ;-)

(02/05/01)I got my Ryoko figurine today. I took a quick snapshot with my webcam. She sits on my desk, next to my lamp and my computer's JBL Pro speakers. Here's a clearer picture of her in the box

(07/08/01)McFarlane Toys has released the 3D Anime from Japan catalogue for 2001. Featured among the lineup is the OAV Tenchi figurine, in battle gear. I think he'll go well with Ryoko, although I think they'll be mismatched since the Ryoko figurine I have is from the TV series, not the OAV.

I also like video games a lot. I own a Dreamcast, and was quite frustrated when Sega announced that the company would no longer support the Dremcast platform. So, needing a new, 128-bit console, I invested in an X-Box. I want to buy a PS2 soon for Squaresoft games like Kingdom Hearts. I might want a Gamecube, because of The Legend of Zelda, and i do have a Gameboy Advance with a Triton Labs Afterburner backlight kit and a Stealth v3 dimmer. I am especially fond of the Resident Evil (warning: gory) survival horror series. One of my goals is to work for a gaming company before I retire.
