The Torres Strait Flag was designed by the late Bernard Namok and stands for the unity and identity of all Torres Strait Islanders. Featured are three horizontal coloured stripes, the top and bottom stripes in green and the middle stripe in blue, each divided by thin black lines. The white dhari (headdress) is positioned in the centre with a white five pointed star underneath it. The colour represents the land and the dhari is a symbol of all Torres Strait Islanders. The black represents the people and the blue is for the sea. The five pointed star represents the island groups. Also an important symbol for the seafaring Torres Strait Islander people, the star is used in navigation. The colour white of the star represents peace.
