NEW’2000 ROCK ART STUDIES IN THE FAR EAST ASIAN 

                                      DURING THE PAST FIVE YEARS

  The past five years, RARAC were edited ”THE CATALOGUE OF ROCK ART SITES IN CHINA”. It’s concluded that it were published articles. Some of them are influential and some of them are not noted. It would be some of them is not know. Now I write this report that is I investigated personally in 1997. This is not new discovered and offered to public. Even were it published, it would be appear on the located report. I think that it would be unfamiliar to the would scholars. I wish that this would be known to anyone.

  Rock art in Korea was first discovered in the 19 century, but this news was not take this matter seriously. This article  is also concluded the new discovered in Guangxi 1999.

Chifeng rock art discovered in North China

  The area in Chifeng lies in a transport zone between inner Mongolia plateau and north plain of China. There is a main way of traffic since ancient times where various of nationalities come and go. From a lot of remains seen. There are have different culture characteristic. As part of discover and research rock art of China, it’s has special significant in prehistory culture of southeast of inner Mongolia. In 1997,with location colleague accompanying, I investigated those sites. Up to now, to research this region have not been finished, the work have been continue. 

1, rock art site discovered in the suburb of Chifeng  

  New discoveries are found in the in Yingjin river corridor region of the suburbs of Chifeng. The few records were published in location. Along Yingjin River banks, there are found rock art. Figure, human face and concentric circles are mainly. The method combine dig and carve .

  It is important that some ancient remains include Shan culture ,Upon culture of xiajadian, Down culture of Xiajadian are found around those sites. From some images of rock art, which are similar to those culture remains. According to similar styles or different styles, those rock art were   divided  same or different period works. On the other hand, we deduce the date of rock art from the trace on the those surface.

  The mainly clues were Upon culture of Xiajadian, In that date it’s had killed head custom as this is similar as a piece of had has personage with ornament gown in those rock art sites. Like this rock art were made dig and carve with whet ,the trace is deep.

  There are appear eddy pattern concentric circles of rock art, these geometry patterns always carry image or personage around and otherwise in this time. The trace is more shallow than the upon culture. We are sure that it has something of culture intention ,but we could not it’s meaning.

2, Rock art site discovered in Alukeqingqi

  There is mountain called “Shanlong Mountain” in northeast on which there are many holes. On the top people went to offer sacrifices to AOBAO even the today. There is a hole that is about 10 meters long and 4 meters high. On the west rock ,two single same pattern that own four level round concentric circles. It’s 0.1 meters deep dig and whet mark. From the method seen , it’s seem like stone tool made it.

  At the present, they are defended as the people pay attention them. Lie in 3 kilometers Shuangageng, the rock art is carved on stone, there is a picture in which some geometry patterns made up a pattern. A lot of these images are discovered in Xingjiang, we call it impressive, it’s about nomadic people, now the nomadic peoples also print on their animals like horse themselves.

  Nearly there is large tomb remains in Liao Dynasty. But, we could not deduce that is belong to this date.

  3, Rock art site discovered in GangGengsumu

  The rock art site was located on 5 kilometers northeast county, 1000 meters above sea level GangGengsumu. It’s a stretch of space land and a vast field of vision. On the top of mountain, there is a place of worship, two pieces of smooth stones that is 2 meters long are pile up. The below own eight carve symbols which see five short lines over the circles that is like a hard mark. Four of them are carved by late people repeat. The mark is newer. This mysterious symbol originated, we can’t define and what people are from and what’s the meaning.

  4, Rock art site discovered on the Easthorse Mane Mountain

   Lie on 100 kilometers Balingyou, where is in the central of Kerqi sand. Around which is deserted heavily and getting wasteland gradually. On the southeast hillside has a rock art site. It is divided into three group that is consisted of red pigment. Apart of rock art have been lying buried as wasting. The rock art is drowned on the five pieces of stone. It’s rarely found in inner Mongolia, it mainly dancers and hunters. Upon the right is a row of dancers, their head and four lines are front and have tail orname

  5, Rock art in Zhuozi Mountain lie in the west of Keqi. Zhuizi 

    Mountain that is a cylinder mountain and that was formed as volcanic eruption that is standing in the boundless and vast grassland alone. It’s only a little island in the Dalizou lake. Now the water are receding gradually. This rock art site have seven groups. There are thirty-five figures in them. It’s distribution is centralism relatively. The subject matter is about figures, horse, deer, tiger. There are two kinds of dig and carve manners. One is a dig and carved to the whole body, the other is to carve the outline. It’s line is particular, it’s manner is brief . We can not deduce the rock art dates, because we lake the information.

  Those rock art sites were the treasure of human culture heritage. It’s evidence that  the ancient culture in Chifeng area is multiple nation crossed and multiple economic type crossed. The problem about the prehistory culture and the original on commodity culture in Chifeng. We not only want to concern with their past , we are also concern with their present and future.
