From: "Henry Walt" To: "SuSheng" Cc: "John Brayer" Subject: More questions Date: Friday, December 29, 2000 11:53 AM Dear SuSheng I'm sorry, but I have more questions. I think that I will have to continue to ask questions until I am comfortable with what I know about your rock art sites. I have contacted some people here who may be able to help us and have described what I know to them. I don't know how hard it will be to get funding for a project - but I think we will succeed if we keep trying. It may be a good idea to start with a project in a limited area and then go to a large scale project. We will see. I read on your webpage that the rock art of Helanshan spans many years and dynasties. Are you able to tell if a number of ethnic groups made the art? Are there other archaeological remains nearby? You have mentioned that the oldest rock art at Liangyungan was produced by an ancient nation - was this during the neolithic period culture? I would like to know a little more about conservation issues at these rock art sites. You have said that acid rain is a problem at Helanshan. What effect has acid rain had on petroglyphs (or pictographs?) there? At Liangyungan you talk about phosphates nearby. Are phosphates being mined near the rock art? How has this affected the rock art? I apologize again for all these questions, but I must know more if I am to make an impact at granting agencies. You mentioned another possible rock art site for us to work at - Teibten. I don't see it anywhere on the website. Can you tell me a little about Teibten. I won't ask any more questions today. Thank you for all your answers. I'm beginning to understand things a little bit. Sincerely, Henry
