From: "Henry Walt" To: "SuSheng" Cc: "John Brayer" Subject: More questions Date: Wednesday, December 27, 2000 5:29 PM Dear Susheng Thanks for your emails last week. They were very helpful, but now I have some more questions to ask. We are having holidays now, between Christmas and the New Year. Everything is closed this week and everyone is on vacation. Next week I will begin to contact some possible granting sources. I have looked at Helanshan and Liangyungan on your website. Helanshan is described as having 19 sites, but it sounds as if there is rock art throughout these mountains. How large are the 19 sites and how extensive is the rock art through the Helanshan Mountains? I ask about the extent of these rock art sites since you have suggested them as a recording site for us. How large of a job will it be to record all or most of the rock art in the Helanshan Mountains? Have any pictographs in the mountains been dated? I think it would be possible to set up standards for recording rock art through a project such as the recording of Helanshan - and put all information we record into a database. This could be used as a model for future rock art recording projects - and used to compare rock art information from one area to the next. The questions I ask about Helanshan I would also like to know about Liangyungan - how extensive are the rock art sites there and how much needs to be recorded there? Isn't Liangyungan north of Shanghai? I'm wondering why it is considered Southern China? I will stop asking questions now. I have many more questions but will wait until later to ask them. Your friend Henry
