Eat and drink

Beveridge Place Pub
6413 California Ave SW
West Seattle
open 3pm - late
No food is served here except for chips, there's just a lot of good beer on tap and a staggering variety in bottles. Bring your own food or use their collection of menus to get a delivery from a local restaurant.
Elysian Brewing Company
1221 E Pike St
Capitol Hill
Great brewpub that has seasonal and guest beers on tap.
The Stumbling Monk
1635 E. Olive Way
Capitol Hill
open 6pm-2am
A small bar specializing in Belgian and Belgian style beers. The sign is not so obvious, so look for a place on the corner with the word "Typewriters" over the door. There is no food available except for small packets of potato chips, so you can bring your own.
Uber Tavern
7517 Aurora Ave N
open 4pm - late
No food is served here, just obscure beers on tap and in bottles. Great for beer geeks.
Metropolitan Grill
820 2nd Ave
Professional bartenders, great happy hour (M-F 3-6pm) food.
Shiki Japanese Restaurant
4 W Roy St
Lower Queen Anne
open for lunch weekdays and 5:30pm-9ish everyday
A homey sushi restaurant in my neighborhood. They are licensed to serve fugu! Also has many regional dishes of Kyoto.
Shiro's Sushi
2401 2nd Ave
Very good traditional sushi.
Wasabi Bistro
2311 2nd Ave
Fun fusion-style sushi place. Happy hour from 4-6pm and 11pm-1am.
Agua Verde
1303 NE Boat St.
University District
Delicious soft tacos on the waterfront. They rent kayaks.
Baguette Box
1203 Pine St.
Capitol Hill
open until 8pm
Simple sandwich shop that uses excellent ingredients, from the fresh crusty baguettes they use for all the sandwiches to the moderately priced high-concept sandwiches like braised lamb and drunken chicken. There are also a couple of odd dishes, like beef stew, that dot the short menu. I have not tried the french fries with truffle oil yet, but the regular fries are good.
La Carta de Oaxaca
5431 Ballard Ave NW
Excellent, authentic Oaxacan food.
Kingfish Cafe
602 19th Ave E
Capitol Hill
Upscale soul food. Beautiful interior and friendly staff.
Mike's Noodle House
418 Maynard Ave
International District
Cheap and fresh Chinese noodle dishes and congee. This small place is crowded on weekends.
309 3rd Ave S
open 11am-4pm Tues-Fri
It is so hard to eat here if you don't work downtown, but they have the best salamis and sausages at lunchtime.
Vietnamese delis
Many locations in the International District near 12th Ave S and Jackson
There are many Vietnamese delis near this intersection. All have unbelievably cheap takeout food, like sandwiches and rice plates. Open until about 7pm.
Thanh Son Tofu
118 12th Ave
Extremely fresh tofu and some deli items.
Bakeries and desserts
Simply Desserts
3421 Fremont Ave N
open Tues-Sun
No atmosphere, great cake.
Cafe Besalu
5909 24th Ave NW
open 7am-3pm Tues-Sun
Their croissants might be the best in the city. Also has worthy pastries and quiche.
Dahlia Bakery
2001 4th Ave
Good bread. I love the crusty ficelle.
Macrina Bakery
2408 1st Ave
615 West McGraw
Queen Anne
open about 7am-7pm
Very good breads and tarts. Popular for breakfast.
Salvadorean Bakery
1719 SW Roxbury St
White Center
open 8am-9pm
Good Salvadoran food and great (and cheap) cakes and pastries.
1205 E Pike St.
Capitol Hill
open noon-10pm
Good ice cream.
Tea, coffee, wine, and beer
Floating Leaves Tea
1704 NW Market St
Chinese tea shop with a great selection of Taiwanese oolongs.
Shinka Tea
4727 University Way NE
University District
open until midnight
Well-prepared bubble tea. They use smaller tapioca pearls than the neighboring shops, and the pearls are always freshly prepared. The other tea places on the Ave attract different crowds and are worth checking out.
Stumptown Coffee
Capitol Hill (2 locations)
Oregon-based company with excellent coffee.
Bauhaus Books & Coffee
414 E Pine St
Capitol Hill
Good coffee, young crowd. I think "books" refers to the decorative volumes scattered on the wall shelves. They also offer Kool-Aid, but no one has ever gotten it.
Cafe Victrola
411 15th Ave E
Capitol Hill
Good coffee, off Broadway, and free wi-fi free on weekends.
Espresso Vivace
901 E Denny
Capitol Hill
open 6:30am-11pm
Very good coffee. The lattes are very pretty and popular.
Esquin Wine Merchants
2700 4th Avenue S
Large wine store with 2 free tastings per week.
Seattle Wine Outlet
Wine store with an interesting (and non-standard) selection. They always have bottles open for you to try.
1710 North 45th
The biggest selection of bottled beers I've seen.
European Vine Selections
522 15th Ave E
Capitol Hill
Friendly wine shop that always has a couple of bottles open for you to taste.

Elliot Bay Book Company
1521 10th Ave
Capitol Hill
A large independent bookstore with a ton of author events (often more than one a day).
Third Place Books
17171 Bothell Way NE
Lake Forest Park
Another large independent bookstore with a ton of author events and a very good bakery attached. I would go there all the time if it weren't so far away.
2609 1st Ave
New and vintage mod furniture. Lots of Saarinen, Eames, and Panton lights and furniture along with Alessi housewares. A gallery of mid-century modern domestic design.
Dandelion Botanical
5424 Ballard Ave. NW
The knowledgable staff will help you with the store's wide selection of soaps and herbal products.
The Cheese Cellar
100 4th Ave North Suite 150
Lower Queen Anne
Good selection of cheese and a friendly shop owner.
1527 Queen Anne Ave N

Great stock of chocolates.
