The Paro Tsechu
One of the most important dances of the festival is the Judgement of the Dead. Shinje Chhogyel, the Lord of Death, is paraded around the courtyard and then installed in a prominent place. This is who is depicted in the photograph.

The dance, which is more like a play than a dance, lasts around two hours. The deceased is judged and at first is sentenced to hell. Through the intercession of the forces of good, the sinner is eventually saved and allowed into heaven.
