Transcript 00:00 now you new to 3d printing maybe just 00:02 bought your first under three or you 00:04 gonna get one for Christmas let me show 00:05 you how to level your bed the most 00:07 important thing you need to know when 00:09 you're getting started with 3d printing 00:11 I'll show you an easy way to do it right 00:13 here a filmer friday filament Friday is 00:21 sponsored by my patreon supporters the 00:24 most important thing you need to learn 00:25 when you're getting started with 3d 00:27 printing is to get a level bed when your 00:30 bed is level that means the position 00:32 between the bed and the nozzle is the 00:35 same no matter where that nozzle is 00:36 positioned now you can never get it 00:39 exactly perfect because every bed has a 00:41 low spot or a warped spot no matter what 00:44 you use the stock bed this is a flexible 00:47 bed on the under 3 Pro I put a glass bed 00:50 am i under 3 cuz I like printing on 00:53 glass and you tend to get a little more 00:55 level when you do use glass but it's the 00:58 same technique no matter which one you 01:00 have and no matter which printer you 01:02 have although I'm going to show you here 01:04 on an under 3 now what I've included in 01:07 the description below are a link to a 01:09 Thingiverse location where there's two G 01:11 code files I recommend you download one 01:13 is a g-code file that will position the 01:16 head at five different points on the bed 01:19 and then at each point you slide a piece 01:22 of paper underneath it and adjust your 01:24 bed until that piece of paper hardly 01:26 moves now I like to use a filament 01:28 Friday sticker because it gives me two 01:30 levels of adjustment one as a sticker 01:33 and then I peel off the backing and I 01:35 have a second one slightly thinner for 01:37 the second go around if you want a 01:39 couple of these stickers there's a 01:40 address in the description below send me 01:43 a self-addressed stamped envelope and 01:44 I'll send you two of them for free so I 01:47 use this to position it and to get that 01:50 perfect distance so let me run the first 01:53 g-code which positions the head and I'll 01:56 show you how it works and then after 01:57 that I'll show you the g-code to print 02:00 this test file so you can get that 02:02 perfect print all the way around and 02:04 then you know you're ready to get your 02:06 first prints going on your new under 02:09 three or your existing under 3 download 02:12 the files from Thingiverse 02:13 on to your SD card and then run the chip 02:15 under three bed level dodgy code the 02:18 machine will home itself and then moved 02:20 to just above the first adjustment screw 02:23 now you take your piece of paper or fill 02:25 in a Friday sticker slide it in under 02:28 the nozzle and then adjust the bed until 02:31 oh just a slight resistance on the 02:33 sticker then you hit the button and 02:35 it'll move to the back corner then you 02:38 do it again adjust the adjustment screw 02:40 until that sticker or piece of paper 02:43 barely slides out as you feel 02:45 significant resistance and then you do 02:48 this at each corner press the button 02:50 it'll automatically move and then you 02:52 get all four corners when you press the 02:55 button again 02:55 it'll move to the center when it gets to 02:59 the center you can do the same thing rub 03:01 the paper or sticker underneath it but 03:04 when you adjust it you have to just all 03:05 four wheels equally mine felt pretty 03:08 good so I left it now when you press the 03:11 button it's gonna go to the back corner 03:12 but I'm gonna use the back of the 03:14 sticker which is a lot thinner and then 03:17 I read just adichie I was really close 03:20 to the bed once that was done the last 03:23 time I hit the button it's done and it 03:26 homes itself again now you want to start 03:28 the square bed level test at g-code and 03:31 make sure you had some PLA loaded before 03:33 you do this and it'll start printing its 03:35 squares now the trick is to rub your 03:38 finger on the bed see if you can knock 03:40 it off then these are very thin lines so 03:43 it's pretty easy to knock them off if 03:45 it's not sticking to the bed so here 03:47 look at I could knock that corner so 03:49 that corner needs to be moved closer to 03:51 the nozzle if you move a clockwise it 03:55 moves it closer to the nozzle if you 03:57 move a counter clockwise it moves it 03:59 away so I just keep adjusting that until 04:02 I get each corner right now if I ever 04:04 see it very dull or not printing at all 04:07 then I know I went too far and it's too 04:09 close to the nozzle but you just let it 04:12 happen for each square keep checking it 04:14 and you will slowly tune this guy right 04:17 in once we get this done then we can 04:21 just remove them all and start over 04:24 because now our bed should be adjusted 04:25 properly 04:26 so just easily remove all the strings 04:28 from the bed now you could just this is 04:31 a flexible plate you could just pull it 04:33 off and peel them but anytime you remove 04:35 it it can affect the bed level so it's 04:37 best to leave it there so we're gonna 04:39 run it again now that I've had 04:40 everything adjusted and I can easily rub 04:44 this and it's not moving so this is 04:46 looking really good so I let this run 04:49 until all the squares are printed and 04:51 then it'll print multiple layers so once 04:53 the first round of squares is printed I 04:56 stop the print you can keep it going if 04:58 you want but I just stopped the print 05:00 and then from there I check it and this 05:03 looks perfect so now I'm gonna test it 05:06 by printing an actual print I'm gonna 05:07 print a bench E but only the first layer 05:10 so prints the first layer I hit stop and 05:13 then I can look at this up close and you 05:16 can see I got it good because the 05:17 lettering is coming out perfectly it's 05:20 got all the spacing and I can easily 05:22 read it I'm take it off the bed look at 05:25 that it's almost a perfect layer I got 05:27 some gaps around the edges but that's 05:29 the slicing because I didn't do enough 05:30 overlap and this is a square this shows 05:33 you the difference I started out pretty 05:35 good 05:35 then I adjusted too close because it 05:37 quit putting plastic down there's a gap 05:40 then I got it back to good then I 05:42 adjusted it too far away that's why it's 05:44 sagging and then I got adjusted good 05:46 again and then I printed another square 05:48 and it's perfect other than this lower 05:51 left-hand corner that's about as close 05:53 I'm gonna get so this thing is ready to 05:54 print so that's an easy way to use the 05:58 g-code to set up your machine and the 06:00 g-code to run a test print now you don't 06:03 have to run that test print every time 06:04 you get pretty good at that live adjust 06:06 and you can just do it with the print 06:08 that you're working on the print you're 06:10 gonna make just like the bench e I could 06:12 lay that pinchy down and then look at 06:14 and say now I need to tweak it stop the 06:16 print start it over again get that first 06:18 layer just right just by tweaking the 06:20 knobs and then let it run but if you 06:22 have a removable bed like this every 06:25 time you remove it and put it back you 06:27 take the risk of throwing things off and 06:29 if you ever have to clean your nozzle or 06:32 take that off for any reason you're 06:34 gonna have to readjust the bed so it's 06:37 good to have a technique to get it back 06:39 into 06:40 and this is an easy way to do it so 06:42 that's it for this week and I hope this 06:44 helps you get started with 3d printing 06:46 and get that first layer down just 06:48 perfect so if you like what I'm doing 06:50 here maybe check out some of these other 06:51 videos that are popping up people want 06:53 to help support the channel you can 06:54 support me through patreon if
