01:55 why not Ruby what's the difference those 02:05 who did sound the same to me this is 02:09 interesting because ever since I started 02:12 learning and teaching phonetics I've 02:15 always thought that these transcriptions 02:23 they have the same transcription right 02:28 show and I'll tell da cool that's what 02:32 it means I always thought this was a 02:35 conventional lie that they sometimes 02:38 teach you in school just like on yen 02:43 they use the same symbol that's another 02:45 lie e ad de muy bien es yeah but nobody 02:50 you don't say yeah so that's like what i 02:53 don't distinguish 04:08 them either however it happens that I 04:11 distinguish them and I just brought up 04:15 the question since there was a pun on 04:16 ball and ball I thought well those 04:19 aren't really perfect homophones so I 04:22 asked the people on this list all the 04:24 people are probably most of the people 04:26 anyway are pregnant pronunciation 04:27 teachers I said are these homophones for 04:30 everybody or do some of you distinguish 04:33 everybody said of course they're 04:35 homophones and then professor John Wells 04:38 we're all familiar with no vote by now 04:39 right one of the top politicians in the 04:43 world he wrote me a letter and he said I 04:46 don't think there's any native English 04:47 speaker who distinguishes between those 04:49 two words I said I do he said why didn't 04:54 somebody write about this before that 04:56 was his reaction other people some of 05:00 them tended to be dismissive at the book 05:02 kenanga of course they are 11:05 my brain that is ah when it comes before 11:07 L it's a conditioned this is a condition 11:11 phonological change when it comes before 11:13 L it gets lip rounding I'm just telling 11:16 you
