File: local_info.txt (supplied by Michael Kinyon) Last updated: 2009-jun-30 -------- The Workshop will take place in the East Wing of the Boettcher Center in Room 102. Here is a link to campus maps: http://www.du.edu/maps/ And here is a printable version: http://www.du.edu/maps/resources/docs/campusMapPrintable.pdf The workshop hotel, campus and downtown Denver are connected by the Southeast Light Rail Line, part of the Denver public transportation system. http://www.rtd-denver.com/ http://www.rtd-denver.com/LightRail_Map.shtml The campus is served by the "University of Denver" station. The station nearest to the conference hotel is "Orchard". Getting from the Denver International Airport to the conference hotel: The fastest option is to take a cab, which will cost you about $50. You can also take a shared cab, for instance the Super Shuttle. The shared cab will take several passengers at once. It will easily take twice as long as a cab to get to your destination. One-way ride from the airport to the conference hotel costs $19. You can either book your ride ahead of time at their web page http://www.supershuttle.com/ , or you can purchase a ride at one of the kiosks of Super Shuttle inside the main terminal of the airport. There are other shuttle companies located inside the terminal, too. Public transportation is the cheapest option, but can be slow. You can plan your ride at the RTD-Denver website linked above. The easiest route is take the bus AT from DIA to the Nine Mile Station, transfer to the light rail, take the H-line westbound to the Southmoor Station, then switch to the southbound E or F lines to the Orchard Station Driving to the University of Denver campus: From I-25, take the University Blvd exit and proceed south. When you reach Iliff Ave, turn right so that you are heading west. The Boettcher Center will be on your left about 1/4 mile from the University Blvd. Parking will be tricky; if you continue west, you can park in adjacent residential areas, but watch how they are marked. Getting from the conference hotel to the lecture room: From the hotel, walk 250 yards north (in the direction away from Orchard Rd) to the Orchard light rail station, which is located near interstate I-25 on your right. You can buy tickets from a vending machine near the platform. Board any train (E,F) in the Downtown direction. You will ride through these stations: Belleview, Southmoor, Yale, Colorado, University of Denver. Exit the train at the University of Denver station. Proceed south (away from the interstate), cross Buchtel Blvd, and continue south on High St until you reach Iliff Ave. (The largest major street you'll cross is Evans Ave.) If you'd rather stroll through campus than walk along High St on the perimeter, take the opportunity to do so; the Boettcher Center is not hard to find, and you can ask directions of anyone you meet. On your return trip, do not board the H train, only the E or F trains. Internet Access Internet access will be provided for workshop participants. You will receive a DU Guest ID and Password when we meet for the first time. Using your own laptop, you can then connect wirelessly inside and near the workshop room or in Penrose library.
