This is a little extreme, but to be honest, scientists also love to extrapolate, and some of what they say is not much better than this...

I assume it was Kurzweil they were mocking in the first place. I mean, the bottom-heavy log-log plot combined with the preaching?

I just went to a talk he did for Google focusing on the growth of the information society, essentially (with the standard crazy medical predictions thrown int). He gave out copies of "The Singularity is Near", so I'm looking forward to filtering through it to see if I can find the core of brilliance underneath the hype.

I can only guess, but I do know that Randall Munroe is a savvy guy with a strong satirical streak, so you may be right.

If you make it through the book, I'd love to hear your take on it...
